Protrusion

This condition occurs when your upper front teeth protrude well beyond the lower front teeth.  It is by far the most common orthodontic problem.  It is the result of an overgrowth of the upper jaw, or a flaring of the upper teeth. It is usually accompanied by insufficient growth of the lower jaw.

Early correction of this condition is highly recommended because it can:

  • Cause improper function of your front teeth
  • Fracture of your upper front teeth due to trauma
  • Unusual wear to the lower front teeth
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ)problems
  • Unattractive smile
