A Healthy Bite

Let us understand what is a healthy bite before we discuss the abnormal or unhealthy bite (Malocclusion).  A healthy bite is defined as the upper teeth meeting in front of the lower teeth.  In the front this overlap is about 1/4 to 1/3 of the lower.  In each jaw the teeth are aligned within a symmetrical arc, in contact with each other.

Common Orthodontic Problems

An abnormal bite is a misalignment of teeth and/or an incorrect meeting of the upper and lower teeth. Many people have some sort of malocclusion, from one single tooth out of alignment, spacing around the teeth, to more severe problems.
