Thank you for your interest in learning about our practice. First, allow me to tell you why I selected orthodontics as my career. It’s really quite simple. As an orthodontic specialist I have the privilege of making a significant contribution to the betterment of my patients’ lives. I help create smiles and facial harmony – these are as much about health as they are about appearance and attitude. It is easy to appreciate what a difference there is in being able to smile with confidence knowing one has beautiful teeth, versus being hesitant to reveal a mouthful of crooked teeth. It was once said that "a smile happens in a flash, but its memory can last a lifetime”.

The joy of being well received is universal and is something we will never outgrow. Adults or children who feel unattractive because of crooked teeth or mal-aligned jaws may become so self-conscious and preoccupied with their appearance that they may cover their mouths when speaking or laughing, or may refrain from smiling altogether.

Properly aligned teeth are, quite literally, the picture of health. Crooked teeth are difficult to clean and allow entrapment of food, are the prime source of decay and gum disease. When the teeth are not in proper alignment, compensatory abnormal biting frequently results. This is followed by abnormal wear of the cusps as well as excessive pounding of the dental apparatus causing stress to the supporting bone and soft tissues. If allowed to persist, this condition progresses to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, resulting in clicking, pain and joint deterioration.
